Selena Gomez Brings Romantic Dressing to MTV VMAs 2023 in Red Oscar de la Renta Floral Threadwork Look

Selena Gomez arrived on the red carpet for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awars on Tuesday in Newark, New Jersey, taking a bold approach to color.

In honor of this year’s MTV VMAs the singer and actress wore a red floral threadwork dress with a semi-sheer effect from Oscar de la Renta. The dress had an asymmetrical hemline, creating a thigh-high slit.

The dress was coordinated with strappy red sandals from Jimmy Choo. She accessorized with Pasquale Bruni jewelry, including earrings, rings and bracelets.

Gomez worked with stylist Erin Walsh, who also collaborates with Ashley Park, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Alba.

Gomez is nominated for three MTV VMA Awards this year for her song “Calm Down” in collaboration with Rema. The duo has been nominated for Best Collaboration, Song of the Year and Best Afrobeats.

In August, Gomez became a hot topic of internet conversation when she released her music video for her new song “Single Soon.” The song paid homage to the iconic “Sex and the City” television series.

As Gomez sings, “Should I do it on the phone? Should I leave a little note, in the pocket of his coat?” she leaves a sticky note that says, “I’m sorry, I can’t, don’t hate me” — referencing a scene from Season Six, episode seven of “Sex and the City” in which Carrie’s then-boyfriend Jack Berger breaks up with her via a Post-it note with the same message.

Selena Gomez accepts the Best Afrobeats Award for “Calm Down” onstage at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 12, 2023 in Newark, New Jersey.

In addition to her music endeavors, Gomez is also the founder of her own cosmetics line, Rare Beauty. The brand, which launched in 2020, is available at Sephora stores in North America. In 2021, the brand expanded to Europe and the Middle East.

Since 1984, MTV’s Video Music Awards have celebrated the biggest artists of the year. The 40th VMAs, held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, are hosted by Nicki Minaj and feature a brand new category: Show of the Summer. Shakira will receive the coveted Video Vanguard Award, while P Diddy is being honored with the Global Icon Award.
